These are some of our favorite (and most popular) Chicken Breeds. We love to buy an assortment of breeds, mostly for egg production while others are great to use as show birds. A good egg layer will produce about 4-5 eggs a week or more.

Most of these hens keep shelling out eggs, right through the winter. (By the way, a rooster is not needed for a hen to lay eggs!)  All breeds listed below do well in hot weather, make sure they still have some shade and fresh water at all times! 	Golden Sex-Link Personality- Quiet, docile Class- Non-Standard Weight- 5-6 pounds. Hardiness- Cold Tolerant. Egg Size / Production- Large- Extra large brown egg about 5+ times a week. (one of our favorite egg layers!)
	Rhode Island Red Personality- Active but easily handled. Class- American Weight- 6-7 pounds. Hardiness- Hardy in heat and cold. Egg Size / Production- Large brown egg 5+ times a week.
	White Rock Personality- Docile Class- American Weight- 7-9 pounds. Hardiness- Very cold hardy. Egg Size / Production- Large brown egg about 4-5 times a week.
	Black Copper Maran / Rare Personality- Gentle, intelligent. Class- French Weight- About 7 pounds. Hardiness- Depends on breed, generally heat and cold tolerant. (other breeds include the Cuckoo and Golden Cuckoo Maran.) Egg Size / Production- Large very dark chocolate egg about 3-4 times a week. Another one of our favorites!
	New Hampshire Red Personality- Varies from difficult to calm, can be tamed. Class- American Weight- 7-8 pounds. Hardiness- Hardy to cold. Egg Size / Production- Large brown egg about 4 times a week.
	Silver Laced Wyandotte Personality- Sweet to difficult, can be tamed. Class- American Weight- 6-7 pounds. Hardiness- Very cold hardy. Egg Size / Production- Large brown egg about 4 times a week.
